Gone with the old, in with the new

Well I have decided that my real passion/hobby is home decor.  When I am in a store, I always find myself in the home decor section, even if I went in to get something completely different.

Chevron Table

So sometimes I get into this total craft mood and just go for something and forget to take before and after pictures :)  For this project all you need is:
- Blue painters tape
- Paint (white and mustard for me)
-Paint brush
-Paint sealant if you want

So I just painted the whole top of this table white to begin with.  Then once that dried (let it dry overnight),  I placed my painters tape in a chevron pattern.  So I would basically make one side of the triangle shape and then cut the tape so it would be a nice straight edge and then start there and go the other way up (making the zig-zag pattern).  Once I had all the tape on, I painted the mustard color on the areas where there was no tape.  I let it dry for a little (maybe an hour?) and then pealed the tape off.  Then I just touched up the areas where a little paint got underneath the tape.  Then I placed a clear sealant over the top. Fun stuff!

Literally a BOOK shelf

Hey there!  I hope everyone had a great weekend!  My hubby and I worked on a project that I have been wanting to do.  I took this idea from the show Design Star, love that show.  Basically I had this simple Ikea shelf and wanted to add a little character to it.  I replaced the wood shelves it came with, with actual books I purchased from Goodwill.

First you will want to measure your shelves to see how wide you want your books to be.  Then I just took a tape measure with me to Goodwill and measured the books to find the correct size.  They can be a little smaller in width because you will be screwing them to the shelf.  My shelf widths were 17 and 3/4 inches so it was a little hard to find books, but I managed to find some. :)

Shelf before:

So basically you take the old shelves off and placed the book where the shelf used to be.  We had holes on our shelf so we knew where the screw needed to go underneath the book (you could mark the book to know where to drill).  Then we took the book off and drilled two holes to make it easier for the screw to go into.

Then you can screw the book onto the wood beam.

Kinda fun right?  Its all about making your home you and adding some character whenever possible. Enjoy!  Let me know if you have any questions.. my directions may not make total sense. :)

Just needs a little paint.

I bought this headboard and footboard on craigslist a couple months ago.  For our guest bedroom, I was going for the shabby chic look so I decided to paint the set white.

I found this "vintage" banner at an antique mall and decided to tie it to this old branch.  Easy way to create a wall hanging...

Here is the headboard without any pillows by it.  You can see it better.
